Another exceptional coffee from Volcan Azul
We are absolutely thrilled to continue our buying relationship with the remarkable Volcan Azul farm for a second year. Alejo belongs to the fifth generation of the Castro-Kahle family, who have been cultivating coffee on the side of the Poas volcano in central Costa Rica for over 100 years. They work with over 20 varieties including Caturra, Catuai, Geisha, Villa Sarchi, SL28, Mokha and Rume Sudan. Alejo is an extremely passionate and knowledgeable coffee grower. He‘s continuously experimenting with new varieties and less conventional processes with the goal of producing some of the best coffees in the world. His fermentation techniques are always done with great precision and intention and the results showcase a lot of clarity of flavors.

Characteristics
In addition to their pursuit of quality, the family has chosen to conserve some 200 hectares of forest located above their coffee fields in order to preserve local biodiversity. Alejo is convinced that the forest thus conserved allows his coffee trees to benefit from a unique microclimate: a light damp veil sweeps the farm everyday, even in the dry season.
