Kusillo, Filtre

We taste
A coffee in the same spirit as our Alejo Castro filter, with intense fruit notes and a touch of sweetness. Perfect for warming up this season! We love its surprisingly lively notes of Rooibos, green plum and its gourmet finish of lemon tart.

Particularities
Agricafé is a Bolivian family business that produces coffee on its own farms and sources high-quality micro-lots from small producers in the Los Yungas and Santa Cruz regions. A pioneer of specialty coffee in South America, Agricafé entered the coffee industry in 1986, when Pedro Rodriguez decided to pursue his passion for farming. More than 34 years later, he has lived through the ups and downs of Bolivian coffee, and today works with his daughter Daniela and son Pedro Pablo. The trio run the business with the idea of restoring and improving Bolivian coffee by launching producer training programs and planting their own farms in the aforementioned regions.

History
The Kusillo farm is located in the Bolinda settlement, which lies in a steep, green mountain valley about 10 kilometers from the Caranavi region. Finca Kusillo is one of the farms owned by Agricafe, a specialty coffee company founded by Pedro Rodriguez. Kusillo was planted in 2015 with Java and Red Caturra coffee varieties. The farm has an area of 10.3 hectares and neighbors La Linda, a plot of which we bought last year. A row of banana trees separates the two farms where, during the harvest season, the harvesters settle down to rest. In Bolivia, the harvest generally runs from June to October, but at Finca Kusillo, it starts a little earlier. The high altitude - around 1,468 metres above sea level - contributes to the slow ripening of the coffee cherries; at altitude, night-time temperatures are more stable and daytime temperatures are milder. This allows a greater concentration of sugars to develop in the cherry and bean, helping to produce an incredibly smooth, clean coffee.
