This natural coffee lot comes from a women producers blend made up of three producers: Carmela Aduviri, Juana Gonzales, and Nancy Palli. They are based in the Copacabana colony in Caranavi, Bolivia. Caranavi is the most productive coffee municipality in the country and accounts for roughly 80% of Bolivia’s specialty coffee, successfully cultivated there for several decades.

The Copacabana colony is home to 35 families, most of whom rely directly on coffee farming as their primary source of income. During harvest season, families pick coffee cherries daily and gather each evening to sort and select the highest quality fruit. Once this collective work is completed, the cherries are transported to Agricafé’s Buena Vista washing station, located just a few kilometers away in Caranavi, where they are processed.

Caranavi is a municipality in the Yungas region, northeast of La Paz, and is recognized as the main hub of specialty coffee production in Bolivia. Its subtropical climate, abundant rainfall, and elevations ranging from about 900 to 1,500 meters create ideal conditions for growing Arabica coffee. The region accounts for a large share of the country’s specialty coffee production and has supported thousands of farming families for decades, continuing to shape Bolivia’s rural economy today.

Caturra and Catuai are two iconic cultivars of Coffea arabica, widely grown throughout Latin America. Caturra, a natural mutation of Bourbon first identified in Brazil, is known for its compact plants, good productivity, and balanced cup with lively acidity. Catuai, a hybrid of Caturra and Mundo Novo, combines vigor, high yield, and adaptability, with a smooth, sweet, and well-structured sensory profile.

For this lot, the cherries delivered by Carmela Aduviri, Nancy Palli, and Juana Gonzales are received at Agricafé’s Buena Vista wet mill and dried in a coco dryer until they reach 11.5% humidity. The coffee then rests in La Paz before being hulled and sorted at the La Luna dry mill.

The coco dryer, designed by Pedro, ensures slow and even drying thanks to circulating warm air and regular manual turning.
