Kokose, located in the Sidama Bensa region, is gradually emerging as an emblematic community of Ethiopian specialty coffee. Around 500 smallholder farmers cultivate small plots ranging from 1 to 2 hectares. This lot comes from the farm of Solomon Hamiso, whose expertise perfectly showcases the richness of this region, now gaining international recognition.

Located in the Bensa district, in the heart of Sidama, this terroir benefits from high elevation, a temperate climate, and nutrient rich volcanic soils. These exceptional conditions foster the production of coffees with floral and fruity notes and a bright acidity, the distinctive signatures of this emblematic Ethiopian region.

This lot is composed primarily of varieties 74112 and 74158, developed through the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) research program in the 1970s. Selected for their natural disease resistance and refined sensory profile, these varieties are now among the most widely grown and highly regarded in Ethiopia.

The cherries were density sorted and hand sorted, then slowly sun dried on African raised beds to reach ideal moisture content. Once dried, they were dry hulled, bagged, and transported to Addis Ababa for milling and export. This natural process highlights the sweetness and aromatic complexity characteristic of Sidama coffees.
